Meet Mogie! 💙

While I was on a cruise, I had the wonderful opportunity to see blue-footed and red-footed boobies in the wild. I was fascinated to learn that these beautiful birds are born with gray feet that turn blue or red as they grow. I couldn’t stop thinking about them, and before long, little Mogie came to life.

Mogie is a baby blue-footed booby who gets swept away by a tropical storm and lands far from home. After being rescued by a group of kind animals, Mogie discovers that his bright blue feet are different from those of his new friends. He tries everything he can to change them, only to discover that being different isn’t something to hide, it’s something to celebrate. A sweet story about friendship, belonging, and finding your place in the world, Mogie is a reminder that sometimes the very thing that makes us different is what makes us special.

Creating Mogie also brought me back to my roots. Before becoming a full-time artist, I worked professionally as an illustrator, so writing and illustrating this little book was a wonderful way to reconnect with that part of my creative journey. I illustrated every page and even included photographs from my cruise that inspired Mogie’s story. I hope children, and the grown-ups who read with them, enjoy meeting Mogie as much as I enjoyed bringing him to life.
